Instead of treating a leadership role as an unending sprint, CEOs should approach their tenure as a series of three phases. Act one requires a leader to establish legitimacy, build a top team, and begin to communicate and implement a change agenda. Act two requires revisiting many of the choices made during the earlier phase, correcting mistakes, and reenergizing the organization. Act three consists of tying up loose ends and setting the stage for an orderly transition. Leaders who approach their time with these phases in mind tend to be more successful.
What a great summary. Based on my experience, I could definitely agree with making any critical changes relatively quickly.
This was a very valuable read for me. Thank you! I am mid-way through Act 2 but am already planning for Act 3. Subscribed.
I love this perspective of leadership. Thanks for sharing!!
I'm actually going to put it in this week's issue of This Week in Leadership (11k subs)
